Arrowhead High School Voted Favorite School on R&R's Facebook Page

Posted by Resource Center

There was a lot of volley back and forth with our Favorite School competition this Fall.  Seventy-one schools were entered into our Facebook poll asking Facebook users to vote for their favorite school on R&R Insurance Services' Facebook page.

Living Word Lutheran High School, located in Jackson, WI, had the lead for most of the month-long competition. Arrowhead High School, located in Hartland, WI, and Living Word volleyed back and forth for the lead position during the course of the last days of competition.

A total of 1,203 votes in the contest. Early on in the contest we announced that as an added bonus for the winning school, if they were insured commercially with R&R, the prize would be doubled. That added more momentum to the cause. The final tally was captured at 10:00p.m. on Thursday, September 27th, with Arrowhead taking first place with a total vote count of 384. Arrowhead wins a $1,000 donation to their school ($500 doubled because they are insured with R&R Insurance).

Living Word Lutheran High School in Jackson, WI was a very close second place winner and receives a donation of $350.00.

A huge thank you to all of the schools for making our competition a success. Congratulations to both Arrowhead High School and Living Word Lutheran High School for their achievements!

We are very proud to insure the families and businesses in these communities. Here is a snapshot of the final poll results:

The Story Behind The Star-Spangled Banner

Posted by Resource Center

C Documents and Settings s212 Desktop OriginalFlag2As my daughters were growing up, I would always sing to them as part of our bedtime routine. The time of year or the season usually had influence over what songs I chose. Any Olympic event or patriotic holiday would of course call for The Star-Spangled Banner - with an added twist! Not only did I sing it for them, I went through stanza by stanza and explained what it meant. No five-year-old is going to be captivated by the story – so of course it worked like a charm – zzzzzzz… they were out like a light before the “twilight’s last gleaming”! Even though they fell asleep, I still finished the story.

Here’s the nighttime history lesson my girls would get, and I hope to one day share with my own grandchildren.

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?

In 1812, America was fighting the British again. It was in the early hours of the morning that Francis Scott Key was on a truce ship watching the battle of Baltimore near Fort McHenry. Asking, hoping and praying that he could still see the Fort and the American flag that was flying overhead. As the sun began to rise – they could see that it was true, that it was still there!

Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?

This battle was in Baltimore’s harbor in front of Fort McHenry. Key and his comrades could see the ramparts to the fort through the smoke and fire of the battle that was still raging. The flag's stars and stripes were flying high, toying with the British, saying "Ah ha! Try as you might, you can't break our will for freedom!"

And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.

The battle lasted all night. When the rockets gave off light, they lit up the sky, enabling Key to see that the flag and the fort were still holding strong. They kept watching, waiting and hoping for the battle to turn and for the strength and fortitude of the Fort to withstand the bombardment. This also symbolizes the strength, will and fortitude of the American people and the freedom they were fighting for.

O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Key asks again…”can you see it?”…”Is it really true? Is the flag still there?" The flag held strong and was still flying over the fort, over the nation and over the brave American people who fought for our freedom and continue to be free.

That’s the story I taught my girls about how the Star-Spangled Banner came to be.

Hear what freedom means to other R&R Insurance employees.

Winter Slips and Falls

Posted by Resource Center

It’s possible not to laugh when America’s Funniest Videos runs a montage of people falling down. But when someone is hurt in a slip-and-fall accident on your property, the humor fades quickly.

Nearly 9 million people seek emergency services from slips and falls each year, millions more see a doctor within a few days, and thousands more die.

Unfortunately, there’s also a pervasive belief that you’re automatically liable if someone slips on your property, which makes slip-and-fall scams the second most common type of insurance fraud.

Winter is slip-and-fall season

Not all injuries are visible in a slip and fall. If someone reports an accident on your property, treat him or her with kindness, respect and empathy, and collect the following information for your incident report:

  • Name, birth date, primary and secondary contact information
  • Detailed description of the incident, including date and time
  • Any physical or visual impairment
  • What the person was carrying, if anything
  • The type of shoes he or she was wearing
  • List of witnesses
  • If able, ask him or her to show you exactly where and how the accident happened
  • Take pictures of the area and document the conditions
    • Rain, snow, ice, tracks
    • Weather conditions for the current day and several days leading up to it
    • Lighting
    • Any other observations
