My first job out of college was being a multi-line field claims representative. I had to learn how to investigate different kinds of accidents, write car and building estimates, and settle bodily injury claims. Going into it, it seemed like an interesting job. It also included a company car, which was really nice because I had just graduated and did not have a lot of money.
I love the variety of issues and problems that I deal with every day.
The first step is to help investigate the facts and determine what the issues are. Defining the problem helps you focus on possible solutions. The second step is to explain how insurance works and how claims are handled. Insurance has its own vocabulary and terms, so the challenge here is to make insurance understandable for people who do not work in the insurance industry on a day-to-day basis.
