Lab Safety in School Districts

This is an intermediate-level course that provides attendees with an overview of OSHA’s Chemical Hygiene Standard (1910.1450).  Sessions will include a review of Chemical Hygiene Plans (CHPs), responsibilities under CHPs, training requirements, proper chemical handling storage and disposal practices and laboratory safety equipment.  Common lab safety violations and best practices will also be discussed.

Attendees will have the opportunity to tour through Menomonee Falls’ labs and chemical storage areas to see best practice solutions in action.  A role-playing workshop will be conducted to give attendees the experience of effectively deploying a Bradley Equipment emergency shower.  Practical, cost-effective resources will be provided. The seminar is intended to facilitate information sharing among school district employees responsible for lab safety and/or Chemical Hygiene Officers.
