Bloodborne Pathogens - Zika Virus  

Zika virus is contracted primarily through the bite of an infected Aedes Zika.jpgspecies mosquito. Outbreaks of the disease have previously been recorded in tropical Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific Islands. An outbreak began in Brazil in 2015 and spread to other countries in South America, Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Local transmission of Zika by mosquitos occurred in the United States in Miami, Florida beginning in early July 2016.
