Understanding the Prescription Drug Affordability Crisis

Seminar Information

Seminar Content:

Today, most employers are seeing the cost of prescription drugs to be a major part of their total health care spend. On average, pharmacy represents 20% of an employer’s total health care spend but others can see that percentage rise to nearly 50% with the emergence of specialty medications. The world of prescription drugs is like an onion—the more layers you peel back the more you find out how the deck is stacked against employers and consumers. By attending this seminar, you will learn how to better understand the moving parts that make up pharmacy and what you can do as a plan sponsor to address the cost.

Areas we will cover include:

  • Prescription Benefit Manager’s role & how they profit from rebates, margin & fees
  • The pharmaceutical industry tactics for delaying the launch of generics
  • President Trump’s recent announcement of a blue print to reform pharmacy
  • The transition from pills & capsules to gene therapy
