November is National American Diabetes Month. According to the Centers for Disease Control, over thirty-four million U.S. adults are affected by some form of Diabetes. Diabetes exists in two types: type one and type two.

Type one Diabetes is an autoimmune condition where the body attacks insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, leading to a lack of insulin.

Type two Diabetes, on the other hand, is more common and occurs when the body becomes resistant to insulin or doesn't produce enough of it. With one in five adults unaware of their diabetes status, it's crucial to recognize the risk factors and symptoms. Risk factors include a family history of diabetes, being overweight, having high blood pressure, and leading a sedentary lifestyle. Symptoms can range from increased thirst and frequent urination to extreme fatigue and blurred vision. Early detection and management are key to preventing serious complications such as heart disease, kidney failure, and nerve damage.
